The House that Lars Built // Style Sheets: Iris Apfel

I illustrated Iris Apfel for this week's Style Sheet for The House that Lars Built.  Iris has been a style icon for a years. I absolutely love stumbling across pictures of her- she dresses the way she styles. Eclectic, interesting, and story-filled. Jessica Lynn Williams- and interior designer who currently works for Kate Spade- put together this beautiful style-sheet for The House that Lars Built- inspired by Iris. You can have a look at our other Style Sheet inspired by Lucille Ball.

FWD: Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was one of my favorite actresses as a child. I was obsessed with her movies; My Fair Lady, How to Steal a Million, Charade (avec Cary Grant of course) Funny Face. She was just so beautiful and funny and quirky and charming. Which is probably why so many people like her still.   Don't mind that I memorized the whole CD of My Fair Lady and would pretend to be her whenever I could. My cousin and I would watch her movies every summer endlessly.

Spring Vases

Add a little personality to that flower arrangement of yours. Or those kitchen utensils. Whichever you prefer. I have a new style of vase (the middle one) that is being sold now online. I'll be adding new shapes of vases as they come into the shop. Click here for more. I did the above three vases for a customer recently, which I found was a fun addition to the collection. ;)

FWD: Oh Cary

Cary Grant was one of my most favorite actors as a child (as was Audrey Hepburn). How to Catch a Thief, North By Northwest, Charade were just some of the favorites I would watch. He was just so charming, suave, handsome, well-dressed, articulate. And what IS it about those old American accents? They are just on the brink of being slightly British. Everyone seemed so well-mannered and well-spoken back then.

The House That Lars Built // Lilacs

My mug was featured on The House That Lars Built for some lilac arranging. Have a look! Brittany is the most talented, and I was happy to have been able to sell her some of my mugs at our past Pop-Up Shop.

FWD: Deanna Durbin

I drew Deanna Durbin for Friends Who Draw-  who was an actress and singer from the 1940's. She has a nice look, don't you think? Who has seen any of her movies?

Braids of Doodles.

Once, in Beijing when I was small, I was at McDonald's with my mother. An Indian woman stood in front of us, with long, loose, flowing hair down to her ankles. It was the longest hair I'd ever seen- my hair too was as long as it would grow (to my waist) and I was seriously mesmerized by the length of hers. I wondered how she washed it, combed it, etc. My recent trip to India spurred that memory, as I began new work today at the studio.

Cinco de Mayo

Swing me to the moon and back
Swing me to the moon.
Spring has come to us again
It couldn't come too soon.

Winston Churchill- FWD

New for Friends Who Draw. We are focusing on the 1940's so I decided to draw Winston Churchill. As I was looking up info on him today, I couldn't believe he was born in an entirely different decade (1874)- and lived to see SO much change. I can't imagine being alive during a time when life seemed so simple, and then live through the industrial revolution and two World Wars. He died at the age of 91, in 1965. He would be very interesting to talk to, no doubt.

Seriously fascinating.
