I've been teaching art lessons to kids for about two years now. These are some of my sweet little students. I had a closing exhibition for them for all this past year's work. At times I have felt my teaching perhaps wasn't as great as it could have been, but seeing all of their art up next to each other, and seeing all of the raw talent and lovely expression- I couldn't have been a more proud teacher.
We did portraits, still-lifes, character design, t-shirt designs, comics.
So many different types of work and hours were spent making these beautiful pictures. I got to know each of these wonderful children, and hear their hopes and fears, nightmares, dreams, and jokes.
I adored the moments I could spend with them while they created and filled my studio with so much imagination.
Each of these little kids are special to me and I really hope they will continue making beautiful works of art. I think as we grow older, and become more self-aware, and insecure- we can lose our creativity that so naturally we were born with and unabashedly doing without even a second thought.
Other people tell us what we have to do, what we are expected to become.
Keep on creating, I told them, and don't be afraid to make mistakes with your art. It's within the mistakes that one finds that authenticity, and beautiful imperfections.
