Pembroke Castle- Wales

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

Here is one of my drawings from my Finishing Scenes series, done while sitting on one of the walls of Pembroke Castle in Wales. It was a gorgeous view, and such a cool structure. They featured my drawing today, and I wanted to re-post it and promote it if you are ever in that area. We had a very interesting tour guide who took us around and was very in-depth with all of the stories and history of the castle.

I loved Wales. It was full of so many beautiful castles and charming towns. Fields of daffodils and baby lambs (it was Easter). Go visit if you can.

David Bowie Bag +

Friday, February 19, 2016

I created this bag in homage to David Bowie, whose music I love, and who the world will greatly miss. There are other new items in my shop, and other items are on sale. Until tomorrow, my Lover's Eye Rings will be 40% off. I only have a few left, so act fast! Use code: ILUV40

What are you doing for the weekend? I'll be attending an art show opening for Gallery Stroll tonight, and having some meetings for some exciting developments (fingers crossed) in the future. It's been a nice week, I took some time off and it's been worthwhile.

Bon Weekend!

NARS + Marc Jacobs SS16

Thursday, February 11, 2016

Loving Marc Jacob's SS16 make up and clothes.
NARS collaborated with MJ for their SS16 collection for Fashion Week. They have swipes of bright blue at the corners of their eyes, and a dewy pink complexion matched with small bits of pink and brown under and around the eyes. The eye-lashes are thick, lashes separated.
Above are my interpretations of it.

 See it here.

Feature in Drawn at the Tower- London

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Before leaving London in December, I had the chance to go sketching at The Tower of London as part of the Historic Royal Palaces Art Nights, called Art Macabre. My friend helps run the program, and I was invited along for the preview night. We sketched famous figures Queen Anne and King Edward. It was so unique to go there after-hours, where most tourists aren't allowed. We sat ourselves in a main bed chamber of the queen, and a model- dressed the part- came out and we drew as she posed in various poses, while the instructor told us about her life. Then we switched to The Throne Room, and were able to sketch the king sitting regally in his throne once again dressed the part. It was fantastic, and this video was taken (unbeknownst to me) while we drew. You'll probably see me in a few of the shots. I'm just happy I got to take part in it. Read more about Drawn at the Tower and Art Macabre here.

Chinese New Year 2016

Monday, February 8, 2016

For many across the world today, there will be the giving of gifts, money-filled hong bao (red envelopes) new outfits, and little mini orange trees. Fire works and festivals, lion and dragon dances will fill the streets, all to celebrate good luck and fortune for this coming year.

As an American child, growing up in China, I loved these festivals. When we lived in Hong Kong, we would sometimes go over to Macau, to see the fireworks and festivals. Some of the most spectacular fireworks I've ever seen were at the harbor overlooking Kowloon. I remember my mother, an international school teacher, receiving many little orange trees and baskets of fruit. In school, we would learn and sing the classic "Gong xi, Gong xi" song and perform them in our own festivals for school.

My rich Chinese friends would come to school the next week (after our week off) telling me of the envelopes of money received from relatives and grandparents. In Beijing we would buy stadium-sized fireworks for a few hundred kuai, and set them off in the large barren fields surrounding our house. There were always markets selling candied fruits, clothing, and goodies for the festivities. It was just an overall wonderful time of year.

While in London this past year, I would visit Chinatown often to get my fill of Pocky and Boba tea. There was a shop there that was full of lucky cats, all waving their little hands, signaling in wealth and fortune. Growing up, I would see these little cats all over Asia, and the world, in shops, in homes. It is a nostalgic symbol for me, and this is why I designed this tee-shirt. Not only to signify our desire for monetary gain ;) but also to give you that extra little bit of luck and happiness for the year. And maybe, remind you, that you can find luck in some of the most ordinary places.

These tees are screen-printed onto 100% cotton. They are in stock and ready to be sent to you, so find them here:

Happy Year of The Monkey!
